When reservoir construction put its old site underwater, it moved to its present location in 1994 and newly built its main Buddha hall, mountain spirit shrine and monks' quarters. The main Buddha hall enshrines a Buddha triad with Shakyamuni Buddha at the center, the 500 Buddhas and Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva. A small shrine to the Dragon King (Dragon King Shrine) stands over the well beside the monks' quarters. It is always open, and parking is available.

Seongdoam Hermitage in detail

Seongdoam Hermitage: a temple that began with a prayer by a woman of the Jeju Yang clan

About 100 years ago, a woman of the Jeju Yang clan prayed here, had a son, and then built Seongdoam Hermitage. Its buildings burned during the Japanese occupation and the Yeosu–Suncheon Incident, and in 1972 it moved once to where Donghae Reservoir now is. It became a Taego Order temple in 1974.

Seongdoam Hermitage: statues in the mountain spirit shrine and Buddhist paintings made in Naju in 1966

The mountain spirit shrine enshrines statues of Tejaprabha Buddha, the Lonely Saint and the Mountain Spirit, plus 2 statues of the Bodhisattva of Compassion. It also has paintings of the Seven Stars, the Lonely Saint and the Mountain Spirit. The Seven Stars painting and the Mountain Spirit painting were made at Buldusa Temple in Naju in 1966. The Vulture Peak painting and the Indra painting in the main Buddha hall were made the same year at Geumdangsa Temple in Naju.
