Haewollu Pavilion
In Korean: 해월루
Haewollu Pavilion is a remnant of the village of Namchang, where envoys traveling to and from Jejudo Island in the Joseon period waited for wind before boarding ships.
It was built sometime between 1821 and 1850. Daldo Island can be seen off the coast, and a seaside walking path leads to Dallyangjin Fortress, a naval defense post of the early Joseon period. It is open at all times, and parking is available.

Haewollu Pavilion in detail
Haewollu Pavilion: how the port for Jeju ships moved to Namchang
From Goryeo to early Joseon, the port for ships to and from Jejudo Island was on the Naju and Mokpo side, in Taekchon Village near today's Yeongsanpo, Naju. After 1433 it moved to Namchang, then part of Yeongam. The Haewollu Pavilion site is also where the naval garrison commander in charge of Dallyangjin, set up to stop Japanese pirates, stayed and where the navy moored its ships. Namchang, where Haewollu Pavilion stands, was also called Dallyang, Godaldo, Daldo and Ijin.
