Haenam Mokpogu Lighthouse in detail
Haenam Mokpogu Lighthouse: a guide through the narrow channel between Hwawon Peninsula and Dallido Island
Mokpogu Lighthouse guides ships through the channel between Hwawon Peninsula in Haenam and Dallido Island in Mokpo, at the narrow, fast-flowing entrance to Mokpo Port. The lighthouse is in Maewol-ri, Haenam, but it was named Mokpogu Lighthouse to show its role as the gateway in and out of Mokpo Port. It first ran without staff, and from 1964 it became a staffed lighthouse with resident keepers. source 1
Haenam Mokpogu Lighthouse: the old lighthouse building and the new tower
The old lighthouse has a round plan with the lantern section raised on a 2nd level, and a canopy over the front entrance projects in a round arch. The weather vane on the domed roof and the steps and handrails above the lantern remain as they first were. The new tower, built in 2003, is a white cylindrical reinforced concrete structure with a spiral ladder inside. source 2
