Seodongsa Temple in detail
Seodongsa Temple Main Buddha Hall: a hall restored in 1779 and repaired several times
The current main Buddha hall was rebuilt in 1779, the 3rd year of King Jeongjo's reign. In 1870 it was extensively repaired at the wish of three monks, Uiyun, Jeonggi and Jinil. The monk Cheonghak also rebuilt it in 1924 and in 1945 and 1946. It is a single-story building 3 bays wide at the front and 2 bays on the side, with an open interior and a wooden grid floor. Inside are statues of the Buddhas of the Three Ages and the Bodhisattva of Compassion, several Buddhist paintings and a portrait of Choe Myeong-ryun, who supervised the work during the 1879 repairs.
