Jujaksan Mountain in detail
Jujaksan Mountain, a 10 km ridge shaped like a phoenix spreading its wings
The name Jujaksan Mountain comes from the shape of the mountain, which resembles a phoenix flying with both wings spread wide. It runs about 10 km in a straight line northeast from Osojae in Haenam to near Bonghwangcheon Stream in Doam-myeon, Gangjin. The phoenix's head is the highest peak. The right wing is the rocky ridge leading to Osojae in Haenam, and the left wing is the ridge running from north of Jakcheonsoryeong Pass toward Deongnyongsan Mountain.
Jujaksan Mountain: a rocky-ridge hike along the right wing from Osojae to Jakcheonsoryeong Pass
Hikes on the Haenam side start at the Osojae entrance. The trail passes the first rock peak, the 362 m peak, the 401.5 m peak and a silver grass field, then enters the rocky ridge section. It crosses the 412 m and 427 m peaks to reach Jakcheonsoryeong Pass. This right-wing section takes about 3 hours 30 minutes to 4 hours. Going on from Jakcheonsoryeong Pass via the summit (475 m) and the 428 m peak down to Suyang Resort takes about 6 hours in all. The rocky ridge runs parallel to the coastline, so the summit gives a wide view of the archipelago.
