Josan Ancient Tomb in Wolsong-ri, Haenam, a tomb found while installing a loudspeaker

Villagers called this spot Josan or Oedori Dongsan and did not know it was a tomb. In 1973, relics turned up by chance while residents were installing a loudspeaker on the top, revealing that it was an ancient tomb. A 1982 academic survey by Gwangju National Museum showed that it was a Baekje-period tomb.

Inside, it is a front-opening stone chamber tomb, also called a horizontal-entrance stone chamber tomb, made up of a passage leading in and a burial chamber. The burial chamber is 3.6 m long, 2 m wide, and about 2 m high.

Josan Ancient Tomb in Wolsong-ri, Haenam, more than 190 Baekje relics

More than 190 items were found, including Baekje pottery, horse gear, weapons and ornaments, and based on them the tomb is believed to date from the early 6th century. The finds are rated as academic material on par with the relics of King Muryeong's Tomb in Gongju, and they are important for Baekje research.
