Haenam Hyanggyo (Confucian School): founding in early Joseon and several renovations
It is presumed to have first been built in the reign of King Chungnyeol of Goryeo. In 1398 (the 7th year of King Taejo), it was established to enshrine the spirit tablets of past sages and to teach local people. It was rebuilt in 1549 (the 4th year of King Myeongjong). After it was rebuilt again in 1610 following the Imjin War, it was repaired several more times. Today it serves as the base for Haenam's Confucian scholars.
