The site stele was erected in 1968 and records how the spirit tablet of Dangun came to be enshrined here. Yi Seong-sul of the Gyeongju Yi clan composed the text, and Yi Mun-su of the Gwangju Yi clan wrote the calligraphy. The Baegun Monument to Righteousness was erected in 1994 and records the life of Yi Jong-cheol. The stele is 2.2 m high, 0.6 m wide and 0.2 m thick.
Haenam Dangun Yeongdang Memorial Stele: how Yi Jong-cheol brought the portrait from Guwolsan Mountain
In the 1920s, Baegun Yi Jong-cheol from Geumpung-ri, while attending Hwimun Higher Common School, visited Samseongsa Shrine on Guwolsan Mountain in Hwanghae-do with his teachers and classmates. There he saw the Dangun portrait hall falling into ruin. In 1922 he told the Gyeongju Yi clan of his hometown of his wish and built a hall on the hill behind Geumpung-ri. He brought the portrait and ritual vessels from Guwolsan Mountain and held rites there every spring and autumn for 36 years. The portrait was later moved to the current Dangun Shrine.
