Geumgangsan Mountain in detail

Geumgangsan: Haenam's Geumgangsan, flanked by two mountains both named Mandaesan

Haenam's Geumgangsan has a mountain named Mandaesan on each side. One forms the boundary between Maengjin-ri and Hwanae-ri in Masan-myeon, and the other forms the boundary between Okcheon-myeon and Haenam-eup. 'Mandae' means ten thousand large rocks, so one reading holds that if each rock counts as a peak, the two Mandae make twenty thousand peaks.

Geumgangsan Mountain: three hiking courses of 4 to 6 hours

The first course starts at Haenam General Hospital and passes Peaks 3, 2 and 1, Mandaesan Mountain, Geumgangjae Pass, Geumgangsan and Ujeongbong Peak before coming down to Geumgang Reservoir. It takes about 4 hours. The second course goes from Geumganggok Reservoir via Sambong Peak and Mandaesan Mountain to the summit, which has a helipad. It then passes Geumgangsan Fortress, Geumgang Falls, Samgeori and Miam Rock and comes down to Octagonal Pavilion Park, taking about 5 hours 30 minutes. The third course goes from the reservoir past Mandaesan Mountain, Geumgangsan Fortress, the summit and Achimjae Pass, then down to Hakdong Village, taking about 6 hours.
