Galdusan Mountain in detail
Galdusan Mountain: the basic course from Galdu Port past the beacon tower summit and Ttangkkeut Tower
The basic course starts at Galdu Port in Ttangkkeut Village, passes the old guard post, Samgeori and Ttangkkeut Tower, and climbs to the Galdusan Mountain beacon tower and observatory at the summit. It then comes down toward the monorail and ends at the Maemseom parking lot, taking about 1 hour 40 minutes. Galdusan Mountain is the southernmost mountain in Haenam-gun, and it is also called Sajabong Peak. Its parent mountain is Duryunsan Mountain (703 m), the highest peak in Haenam. The name comes from the arrowroot vines that once grew thickly on its slopes.
Galdusan Mountain: a short route by car to the main ridge parking lot, and where to park
For a short walk, drive up the road in front of Pureun Motel in Ttangkkeut Village to the main ridge parking lot. Then follow the stepped path or the poetry monument park about 270 m to the beacon tower and Ttangkkeut Observatory, and go on to Ttangkkeut Tower and back. However, if you leave your car at the main ridge parking lot and walk down toward Galdu Port, you have to climb back up to get it. It is better to park in the lot next to the management office and walk up.
Galdusan Mountain: Ttangkkeut Observatory admission and getting there by bus
For admission to Ttangkkeut Observatory at the summit, the Galdusan Mountain page of Haenam County Culture and Tourism lists 1,000 won for adults, 700 won for youth and soldiers, and 500 won for elementary school students. It is free for those 65 and older, Haenam County residents, persons of national merit and people with disability grade 3 or above. However, the tourist site fee guide of Haenam County Culture and Tourism and Korea Tourism Organization TourAPI list it as free, so call before visiting. Direct and local buses run often from Haenam Public Bus Terminal to Ttangkkeut Village in Songho-ri. Direct buses also go to Ttangkkeut Village several times a day from Gwangju and Mokpo (2 hours 10 minutes from Gwangju).
