Sanso Fishing Village Experience Village: traditional fishing with net weirs and trap nets
The signature activities are net-weir fishing and trap-net fishing. In net-weir fishing, you scoop up the fish and shellfish left around rocky islets or inside nets after the water goes out, with bare hands or a dipper. Trap-net fishing is a traditional method of blocking the paths fish travel and driving them into one place to catch them. You can also enjoy mudflat activities looking at octopus, cockles, oysters, fiddler crabs and gobies, as well as mud massages and mud baths.
Sanso Fishing Experience Village, eco-friendly laver and salt farm activities in neighboring Hanja Village
This is the only village in Haenam County that produces eco-friendly pole-cultured laver (gim), and you can try growing, harvesting, and making it yourself. The neighboring Hanja Village has 48% of Haenam County's salt farms, so you can also take part in turning a Mullebanga and harvesting salt.
Sanso Fishing Experience Village, a wharf for both sunrise and sunset
From the village wharf, the sun rises in the morning over the peaks on the Daeheungsa Temple side of Duryunsan Mountain and sets in the evening toward Jindo. Many photographers come to shoot the sunset beyond the oyster farms built with bamboo. The village was first called 'Jeosan', with the seaside part called 'Gaetmok' and the main village 'Eodeongmeori', before it took its current name, Sanso.
